Many motorists are drawn to synthetic oil for the first time because of its exceptional ability to flow easily in cold weather. In fact, that was the main reason we first sought out synthetic oil. The “cold pour point” is determined using the ASTM “D97” test method and the process is pretty much as you might imagine. An oil is cooled down to the point where it no longer flows like a liquid.
