AMSOIL Synthetics Improve Fuel Economy in Diesel Fleet Test

Fuel consumption test shows that AMSOIL synthetic lubricants improve fuel economy over conventional lubricants.

AMSOIL recently conducted a field study using two diesel trucks from Ford Motor Company’s fleet. The objective was to determine if AMSOIL synthetic lubricants installed in the engine, transmission and differentials could improve fuel economy over conventional lubricants in controlled testing.

Using the “SAE J1321 In-Service Fuel Consumption Test Procedure”, the goal was to limit environmental and operational variables.  After baselines were established with both trucks using Texaco conventional engine oil, gear and transmission oils, the fluids were thoroughly flushed and changed. The control unit was refilled with Texaco conventional oils, while the test unit was filled with the following:

Engine: AMSOIL Premium API CJ-4 5W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil (DEO)
Transmission: AMSOIL SAE 50 Long-Life Synthetic Transmission Oil (FTF)
Differentials: AMSOIL 75W-90 Long-Life Synthetic Gear Lube (FGR)

The testing concluded that the test unit’s fuel economy improved by an impressive 6.54% by simply switching the key components over to AMSOIL’s synthetic oils. They also extrapolated what these type of improvements can mean in terms of emission reductions over the course of a year. As one can imagine, a 6.54% improvement can have dramatic effects.
