AMSOIL Changes Service Interval on EAO13 Oil Filter
Out of the blue, AMSOIL has dropped the filter change interval on the EAO-13 oil filter from 25000 miles (or one year) to the OEM-recommended service interval. Apparently a small number of customers with EAO-13 equipped Honda vehicles were getting oil pressure warning lights which was due to the oil filter reaching capacity. This subject is explained in the technical service bulletin TSB: EAO-13 Oil Filter Service Interval Change.
AMSOIL has chosen to change the service interval for the following applications:
• 2001-2010 Honda
• 2002-2010 Acura
• 1992-2006 Chrysler imports
• 1993-1997 Ford Probe
• 1996-2010 Nissan/Infiniti
• 1971-2000 Mazda
• 1999-2000 Mercury Villager
• 1990-2010 Mitsubishi
• 2004-2007 Saturn
This came as a surprise as we have never heard of a customer complaint regarding this issue and this is a very popular filter. Both of our vehicles are equipped with this oil filter and we’ve used it since the EAO line was introduced. Again nary a problem. We quizzed a member of the AMSOIL Technical Service staff about this and his best guess is that with the EAO-13 being such a small filter, ultra-long service intervals may be an issue on vehicles that are prone to depositing. The occurrence of this problem is a rarity, but it is better to err on the side of caution.
Update: So how does this work if one is using the AMSOIL extended drain motor oils? You can still extended the drain intervals on the engine oil. Simply change out the oil filter at the OEM recommended interval, top up the oil level and continue on.
