Engine Flush Restores Oil Pressure In GM Vortec 5.3L Motor

A customer recently related a situation where a Chevy Silverado 1500 with the Vortec 5.3L motor was brought to their shop with low oil pressure issues. They know that a possible cause of irregular oil pressure readings is a partially plugged oil pick up screen. This issue can occur in 5.3L-equiped Sierra, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Yukon and Suburban models.

- Warm up engine with short drive.

- Idle engine for 15-20 minutes.
- IMPORTANT– do not drive vehicle while flush product is installed. As the flush product is diluting and breaking down the engine oil, it is important not to place the engine under load.
- Shut down engine and drain engine oil completely.
- Change oil filter (important!) and re-install drain plug.
- Refill with new engine oil.
- Check oil pressure to see if this flush process made a difference.
