AMSOIL Introduces New 0W-8 Motor Oil For Hybrid Engines
Update: This product has not been imported into Canada just yet. For now, it is sold in the US only. We expect that as this new grade gains popularity, it will be brought into Canada. Stay tuned.
AMSOIL has released a new synthetic 0W-8 motor oil for automotive hybrid engines. This product is called AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 0W-8 Hybrid Motor Oil. How much thinner can we go?
Remember when 5W-20 engines oils came onto the scene around the turn of the millennium? Many scoffed at the thinner viscosity. There were fears of excessive wear and shortened engine life. Those fears never came to pass. As automakers asked for thinner viscosity lubricants, the motor oil industry has responded with tireless innovation. Today’s lower viscosity engine oils provide better wear control than ever before.
However, 0W-8 engine oil is truly a new frontier.
Introducing AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 0W-8 Hybrid Motor Oil
If you are mandated to use an ultra-low viscosity motor oil like 0W-8, it would be wise to use the best product that you can get your hands on. AMSOIL is a pioneer of synthetic oil technology and a world leader in motor oil quality. AMSOIL’s 100% Synthetic Hybrid Motor Oil series is designed specifically to handle the stop and go rigors of hybrid engines.
Which Cars Use 0W-8 Motor Oil?
The new 0W-8 grade is suggested for cars requiring a 0W-8 motor oil with the JASO GLV-1 specification. As of mid-2024, this includes 2023, 2024 (and newer) Toyota Corolla and Corolla Cross models with the 2.0L, hybrid 4-cylinder engine. The engine codes are M20A-FKS 1, M20A-FKS 3, M20A-FXS I*.
It is projected that other automakers such as Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi will be suggesting the 0W-8 viscosity for some hybrid engines in the next model year or so.
*These recommendations are subject to change. Always refer to your owner’s manual or car dealer for the latest factory maintenance recommendations.

About The JASO GLV-1 Specification
The JASO “GLV-1” specification was developed by the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization for the SAE 0W-8 viscosity. To meet the GLV-1 spec, a 0W-8 motor oil must pass fuel economy, wear control, volatility and deposit resistance thresholds as dictated by JASO testing protocols.
