AMSOIL Field Study – Diesel Garbage Trucks

AMSOIL has published a field study using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants in a fleet of garbage trucks.

AMSOIL recently conducted a real-world field study with Nordic Waste in Duluth, Minnesota, to evaluate how its synthetic lubricants perform under pressure. Duluth provided the perfect “torture test” for these garbage trucks, thanks to its freezing temperatures and constant hill climbing.

The fleet switched from their standard Shell Rotella T diesel oil to AMSOIL products across their entire systems—including engines, transmissions, and hydraulics. The results were impressive: while the fleet previously had to change its conventional oil every 250 hours, AMSOIL Diesel and Marine Oil continued to outperform the old oil after nearly 1,000 hours of operation.

By using oil analysis to monitor engine health, the fleet safely extended its oil change intervals to 900 hours. This switch saved the company between $500 and $600 per truck every year. Beyond the cost savings, the oil analysis helped them catch potential engine issues, such as fuel leaks, before they led to expensive breakdowns. For the average consumer, this study proves that high-quality synthetics don’t just protect better – they can significantly cut down on maintenance costs and downtime.
