Nissan Rogue/Altima, Infiniti Engine Recall- How To Be Prepared
In July 2025, Nissan announced a recall on almost half a million Nissan Rogues and Altimas, along with Infiniti QX50 and QX55 models. This recall concerns defective bearings in 1.5L and 2.0L engines. Nissan technicians will remove the oil pan and inspect for metal particles.
We submit that an inexpensive used oil analysis report can determine whether elevated wear metals are present in the engine oil or not. This can prepare you with precise engine wear information before your engine is inspected by your Nissan dealer.
Which Cars Are Affected By The Nissan Recall?
Nissan and Infiniti cars and SUVs with the “VC-turbo” (variable compression turbo-charged) 1.5L and 2.0L engines are covered by this recall. The specific models affected include:
- 2021-2024 Nissan Rogue
- 2019-2020 Nissan Altima
- 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50
- 2022 Infiniti QX55
The specific components that are failing are engine bearings. These defective bearings can lead to complete engine failure in extreme cases.
How Can An Oil Analysis Report Help The Consumer With This Nissan Recall?
A used oil analysis report can show in very clear terms whether wear metals are elevated and beyond normal limits.
The way in which Nissan is inspecting these engines is by removing the oil pan and then visually inspecting the pan and remaining engine oil for metal filings and debris. This seems like a very subjective way to determine if there is a problem.
In our opinion, there could easily be situations where the bearing problem could be well underway and wear metals could be through the roof. However, the metal particles may not be visible to the naked eye. By the time metal filings are visible, there is already a very severe problem at hand.
It’s important to note that an oil analysis report measures wear metal content in parts per million. It also “red flags” wear numbers that are beyond the norm.
Oil analysis will let you know that the problem has started long before a Nissan tech can make this determination by looking at the bottom of your oil pan.
Therefore, you can know whether you’ve got a serious problem starting before you take your car to Nissan for inspection.
Will An Oil Analysis Report Force Nissan to Replace Your Engine?
Not necessarily. But it can arm you with very valuable insight into the condition of your engine before the inspection. It may also help you determine whether or not you want to keep the car. The best case scenario is that the wear metal content is low or normal and all is well.
How Does Oil Analysis Work?
- We send you an oil analysis kit which is comprised of a sterile bottle, an identifying sticker and information form.
- The sample can be taken during the course of an oil change or drawn through the dipstick tube with an inexpensive aftermarket pump/syringe.
- You send the oil sample to our lab.
- A detailed report is emailed to you about two business days after the sample has arrived at our lab.
