- Overbuilt for long service life
Exceptional Wear Protection
AMSOIL’s Severe Gear Series is renowned for its world-class protective qualities. The full-synthetic Severe Gear 75W-85 contains powerful extreme pressure (EP) additives. The result is a product that offers robust shear stability and resistance to extreme heat. Expect consistent performance and protection over long service intervals.
Reduces Friction For Optimized Efficiency
The 75W-85 grade is becoming a common factory-fill in the differentials of modern cars and trucks. Moving from 75W-90 to the slightly thinner 75W-85 has been an effort to maximize fuel economy. AMSOIL’s full-synthetic formula lowers friction further, thereby optimizing efficiency even more.
Resistance To Extreme Cold
Severe Gear Synthetic 75W-85 has a cold-pour-point of -50°F. Expect consistent performance and efficiency when operating in cold climates.
Consistent Protection From Extreme Heat
When faced with hauling or intense heat, Severe Gear Synthetic 75W-85 hold its viscosity and film strength. This product will resist thinning-out and prevents the formation of deposits due to lubricant degradation. Severe Gear delivers reliable protection during long days on the road.
Conditions Seals To Protect Against Leaks
The AMSOIL Severe Gear formula keeps seals pliable and prevents them from drying out. This feature prevents leaks and keeps out contaminants.
Limited Slip Differentials: Is Adding A Friction Modifier Additive Necessary?
AMSOIL Severe Gear does contain additives for limited slip differentials. However, in some cases, limited-slip differential chatter can still occur. For extra insurance, we recommend adding roughly two-thirds of a bottle of limited-slip differential additive. We suggest AMSOIL Slip-Lock Limited Slip Additive or the equivalent limited-slip differential additive from your car dealership. Either option will eliminate the possibility of limited-slip chatter.

Mixing AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-85 With Other Brands
AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-85 Synthetic Oil is compatible with all other brands of conventional, semi-synthetic and synthetic API GL-5 gear oils. While you can safely mix AMSOIL Severe Gear with other brands, this will reduce the service interval and performance capabilities of AMSOIL gear oil.
The use of any aftermarket oil additives (other than limited-slip friction modifiers) is definitely NOT recommended.
Applications For AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-85 Synthetic Oil
This product is ideal for applications suggesting the following industry specifications where a 75W-85 gear oil is specified:
- API GL-5
- MT-1
- MIL-PRF-2105E
