What Is An “Octane” Rating?
Contrary to popular belief, octane is not the measurement of gasoline’s energy content. The octane number is used to quantify how much compression a gasoline can sustain before ignition. Gasoline with insufficient octane levels can ignite under pressure before engine spark occurs. This “pre-ignition” condition can cause engine knock. Knocking can cause severe engine damage if left unchecked.
How Does AMSOIL Dominator Octane Boost Fight Engine Knock?
A treatment of AMSOIL Dominator Octane Boost improves the octane level of the gasoline. This improves the engine’s ability to resist pre-ignition. Treated gasoline ignites only when exposed to engine spark, thereby reducing the incidence of engine knock.
