2023 Ski-Doo Snowmobile 2-Stroke And 4-Stroke Oil Suggestions

AMSOIL Product Applications
2023 Ski-Doo Summit Snowmobile

Here’s a look at the highlights of the 2023 Ski-Doo snowmobile line. We also offer an AMSOIL Synthetic Oil recommendation for each model.

New REV Gen5 Platform

As we reach the 20th anniversary of the original groundbreaking REV chassis, Ski-Doo offers a fifth-generation version for 2023. There are new variations for deep snow and trail.

The trail version of REV Gen5 does not bring significant changes to chassis or suspension. However, it does offer some considerable improvements to the platform. These include powerful new LED headlights, an optional high-resolution 10.25″ touchscreen display and sturdier engine mounting for reduced vibration.

The REV Gen5 deep snow platform does offer significant changes. The new, slimmer chassis delivers improved suspension, refined geometry and significantly reduced weight. Other functional improvements include a new CVT cooling system and a fourth engine mount for reduced vibration and longer belt life. Another notable addition is LED headlights and an optional high-resolution 10.25″ touchscreen display.

New Entry-Level Snowmobiles

For 2023, Ski-Doo rolls out the welcome mat for newcomers to the sport. They offer new Summit and MXZ “Neo” models. These are new mid-sized sleds for smaller or beginner enthusiasts. The Neo models will be powered by the proven 600 EFI engine.

Ski-Doo further enhances their entry-level segment with the introduction of two new snowmobiles for kids. These new models are the MXZ 120 and 200. They are powered by Yamaha 120cc or 200cc 4-stroke engines.

AMSOIL offers their own snowmobile warranty for 2023 Ski-Doo models using Interceptor.

Delivers superb performance and protection at a great price. Excellent for carbureted or direct-injected engines. A perfect match for the Ski-Doo 600cc EFI engine and the 550cc fan-cooled engine. Also a great fit for older Ski-Doo engines.

Classic Ski-Doo TV Commercials

Fun Stuff

The late 1960s and early 1970s was truly the pinnacle of the snowmobile industry. It was a simpler time when the sport was still relatively fresh and had caught on in a huge way. Ski-Doo was an iconic brand of this age and at the forefront of the culture. Let’s take a look back at a few of their vintage television ads from that time. Many of these ads were exquisitely produced and truly captured the charm of the era.

The first commercial is the newest of the bunch. This spot from around 1978 features Ski-Doo guy and some spirited riding on his Everest.

My First Sled: 1972 Ski-Doo Olympique 335

Fun Stuff

In our latest installment of “My First Sled”, we hear from Bertrand. His first snowmobile was a 1972 Ski-Doo Olympique 335. Bertrand recalls, “It’s a good thing I didn’t have fillings!” We think Bertrand is referring to the choppy ride delivered by the bogie-wheel rear suspension and leaf-spring front skis. Many of us are an inch shorter today thanks to the archaic suspension systems found on the sleds of yesteryear.

The Olympique line was Ski-Doo’s most popular family snowmobile series in the late ’60s and early ’70s. It helped solidify Bombardier’s position as an industry leader at a time when there were over two hundred snowmobile brands on the market. The Olympique machines were more peppy and stable than the pedestrian Elan and cheaper and mellower than the T’NT series. The Olympique series was introduced in 1965 and phased out in 1979. During that period, over a quarter of a million Olympiques were sold.

In 1972, the 335 Olympique retailed for $850 at Ski-Doo dealerships. The 335 model was equipped with a single-cylinder Rotax engine that generated about 20 horsepower. The top speed was right around 40 miles per hour.

Here are some pertinent specifications for the 1972 Ski-Doo Olympique 335.

  • Engine: Rotax single cylinder, two-stroke
  • Displacement: 335cc
  • Bore: 78mm
  • Stroke: 70mm
  • Compression Ratio: 9:1
  • Carburetor: Tillotson HR-75A
  • Horsepower: 20
  • Top Speed: 40 mph
  • Overall Length: 100”
  • Overall Width: 30 5/8”
  • Height: 34 3/4” (without windshield)
  • Weight: 333lbs.
  • Track Width: 15”
  • Fuel Capacity: 5 Imperial Gallons
  • Gasoline/Oil Mix Ratio: 20:1
  • Brake Type: Drum

Here is a video “walk-around” of a 1972 Ski-Doo Olympique 335e. The “e” signified that this model was equipped with electric start.

This video has been removed by the user and is no longer available.

We would love to hear about your first snowmobile. Tell us the year, make and model and feel free to offer stories or special memories about the experience. Contact us at info “at” oildepot.ca and tell us about your first sled.

Ski-Doo Snowmobile Highlights For 2015

Fun Stuff, News

As we highlight each snowmobile brand for 2015, let’s look at the latest offerings from Ski-Doo. Ski-Doo isn’t offering any brand new engines or chassis concepts (like Polaris) this year, but the level of refinement and overall sum of their models is quite impressive.

Yet More 4-Stroke Models

While Polaris has completely abandoned the 4-stroke engine in their snowmobiles, Ski-Doo has embraced the concept by adding a thumper option to most of their series (save for their mountain sleds). The 600 and 900 ACE engines along with the thunderous 1200 4-TEC have been well-received by the snowmobile industry. The 900cc ACE engine is now offered in the Skandic and Expedition lines.

Revised Front Suspension

Ski-Doo has revamped their “RAS” (Response Angle Suspension) front suspension with geometry changes that will improve cornering and handling in rough conditions. “RAS 2” (as it is called) will be found on the MXZ and Renegade models.

174-inch Mega Mountain Sled

Ski-Doo gets aggressive in the mountain sled market with the “T3” package in the Summit series. The main focal point in the T3 option your choice of either a 164 inch or 174 inch track shod with mammoth 3 inch lugs! Ski-Doo also reduced the weight of this model with a lighter exhaust and the new RAS 2 front suspension.

Bold New Color Schemes

To the casual observer, Ski-Doo’s biggest change for 2015 is the introduction of some deafening color schemes offered on the MXZ X-RS, Renegade XR-S, Summit X-RS and Freeride models. We think these sleds look sharp for now, but time will tell if they seem gaudy in a few years (probably).

The Snowmobile Throttle Reinvented

Since the dawn of the snowmobile, the throttle was always controlled by your right thumb. This has been a constant on virtually every snow machine made in the last half-century. On 600 ACE and 900 ACE 4-stroke models, the rider has the option of using the thumb throttle in the standard position or flipping the assembly toward the front of the handlebar. This way the rider can pull back on the throttle rather than push it forward with their thumb. This convertible throttle is called “intelligent Throttle Control” or “iTC”. The iTC throttle position change can be performed in seconds without tools and will reduce hand fatigue during long days in the saddle.

AMSOIL Products for Ski-Doo Snowmobiles

Regardless of whether you select an E-TEC 2-stroke or an ACE or 4-TEC 4-stroke engine, AMSOIL has a synthetic oil option that will protect your investment and maximize the performance of your Ski-Doo. Best of all, our AMSOIL prices are lower than the XPS oils marketed by Ski-Doo/BRP.

Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil for E-TEC Engines

When Ski-Doo released the exciting E-TEC series, AMSOIL took notice and immediately got to work performing meticulous field and lab testing on these engines. When all was said and done, they confirmed that their Interceptor Synthetic Two-Stroke Oil was more than capable of preventing wear and deposit formation in these high-tech engines. Interceptor is an ideal substitute for Ski-Doo XPS Full-Synthetic 2-Stoke Oil and is available from us at a much better price. Read more at Testing Verifies AMSOIL Interceptor Shines in Ski-Doo E-TEC.

Synthetic 4-Stroke Oil for Ski-Doo ACE and 4-TEC Engines

Ski-Doo is expanding the presence of the lauded 600 and 900 ACE engines throughout their line-up along with the 1200 4-TEC. AMSOIL offers synthetic 4-stroke oil that is not only a substitute, but an upgrade over the XPS Synthetic 4-Stroke Oil All-Climate Grade Engine Oil and the XPS Synthetic 4-Stroke Oil Extreme Cold Grade. The AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke 0W-40 Synthetic Oil is recommended for all ACE and 4-TEC engines and is a formidable replacement of the XPS 4-Stroke Oils. It boasts a cold-pour-point of -51°C (-60°F) for immediate start-up protection and delivers relentless wear protection under heavy loads and hot engine temperatures. We can offer this 4-stroke oil at a price that beats XPS at your Ski-Doo dealer.
