Kyle Biro Sweeps Western Canadian Amateur Nationals

Fun Stuff, News

Kyle and Jarret Biro once again prove their worth against Western Canada’s best motocross racers.

As we mentioned in our profile of Kyle Biro and his race bike, one of his big goals for 2015 was to have a good showing at the Western Canadian Amateur Nationals at Raymond, Alberta. The racing event was held this past weekend and to say that he accomplished the mission would be an understatement. Biro did not miss a mark all weekend winning Western Canadian titles in the MX2 Intermediate, MX3 Intermediate and Schoolboy classes. Not only did Kyle win the overall titles, he won all nine motos in the process. Kyle guided his Yamaha YZ250F to holeshots in all but one moto, essentially winning every race from wire to wire. For this impressive performance, Yamaha Canada awarded Kyle with a factory support ride for 2016. Kyle will receive a Yamaha YZF motocross bike for the season and along with parts support.

Kyle Biro At Western Canadian Amateur Nationals 2015

Kyle Biro lands a jump en-route to a sweep of all of his classes at the 2015 Western Canadian Amateur Motocross Nationals at Temple Hill Motorcycle Park.

Kyle Biro is on great form for his next target being the Trans Can Grand National Championships at Walton, Ontario, which takes place next month. Kyle will also participate in the Walton round of the CMRC Pro Nationals which takes place directly after the Trans Can amateur event. As this is Kyle’s first full season as an intermediate amateur, he can compete as an intermediate classified rider and still take part in National Pro races.

Not to outdone, Jarret Biro also had a very strong showing against Western Canada’s best with two podiums. Jarret finished third overall in both the MX2 Junior and the Schoolboy classes. He also finished 7th overall in the MX3 Junior class. A second moto DNF (due to a collision with another competitor) dragged down a strong 3rd in the first moto and 2nd in the third moto.

Jarret also shifts his focus on the Canadian Amateur Nationals as he aims to repeat his impressive podium performance of 2014 against Canada’s best young racers.

The Biro boys have depended on AMSOIL products for several seasons now. Kyle is running the AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Dirt Bike Oil in his four-stroke YZ250F, while Jarret runs AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic Two-Stroke Oil (mixed at 40:1) in his Yamaha YZ125 engine and AMSOIL Dirt Bike 10W-40 in his transmission.

Slideshow- Kyle Biro’s Yamaha YZ250F Race Bike

Fun Stuff

We have covered the motocross racing successes of Kyle and Jarret Biro in this space a few times over the years. The AMSOIL-sponsored motocross racers are two of the fastest and most successful amateur racers in the nation. Both of the Moose Jaw-based riders have won Western Canadian Amateur titles and have also been on the podium in the Canadian Amateur National Championships.

This past weekend was a very special milestone as Kyle participated in his very first CMRC Canadian Pro National race in Regina, SK. Against seasoned pro riders in the MX2 class, Kyle finished a very solid 11th in the first moto. In the second moto, he was running in 8th until the halfway point when he tried a new line through a fast downhill section and was pitched over the bars. The bike landed on him and once he got back up, the bike wouldn’t start. After several dozen kicks and three lost laps, Kyle finally got going again to finish the race. Despite the second moto problems, Kyle proved that he had the speed to run in the top ten against Canadian (and many American) professionals. At just 17, Kyle definitely turned some heads with his performance.

For the rest of the season, Kyle and Jarret will be focusing on the Western Canadian Amateur Nationals at Raymond, Alberta and the Trans Can Grand National Championships at Walton, Ontario. For 2015, Jarret makes the big move to a 125cc bike from the Supermini and 85cc bikes, but we expect he’ll be up to the challenge. He scored podium finishes in both Raymond and Walton last year in the ultra-competitive Supermini class. Kyle will be looking to close out his amateur career on a strong note. Kyle will also take part in the Walton round of the Pro Nationals which takes place just after the Trans Can amateur event.

Kyle Biro’s Yamaha YZ250F Race Bike

Kyle’s race bike is certainly a looker, but she is certainly more than just a pretty face. It started life as a stock 2014 Yamaha YZ250F which was provided by sponsorship from Schrader Motors and Yamaha Canada. Kyle’s father Keith is an exceptional race bike mechanic, so he had a vision of how to take this bike from stone-stock to to the point where it would be competitive in the pro ranks. Let’s take a look at the details in this slideshow.

Kyle and Jarret Biro would like to thank the following sponsors.

The Lost Motocross Bikes Of The 1970s

Fun Stuff

The sport of motocross originated in Europe in the early part of the last century and evolved into a serious racing discipline after the Second World War. While it never really caught on in North America until the late ’60s, motocross exploded in popularity in the 1970s. With this popularity came a deluge of different motorcycle brands and a rapid evolution in engine and chassis development.

All of this trial and error created the technology we see on MX bikes today and also contributed to the demise of most of the motorcycle companies that participated in the early days of the sport.

If you attend a motocross event today, you may see 5 or 6 different motorcycle brands on the starting line. In the early to mid-1970s, there could be dozens. Most all of these brands were relegated to the dust heap of history when the Japanese “Big 4” motorcycle makers got serious about motocross. They introduced reliable, moderately price bikes that quickly took over the sport. Lets look back at the lost motocross bikes of the 1970s.

AMSOIL Introduces New Synthetic Oil For Dirt Bikes

New AMSOIL Products, News, Tech Discussion

AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-60 Dirt Bike OilAMSOIL has released a brand new synthetic oil series designed specifically for 4-stroke dirt bikes. AMSOIL Synthetic Dirt Bike Oils are now available in 10W-40, 10W-50 and 10W-60. These motorcycle oils are designed to withstand the abuse inflicted upon dirt bikes and are suitable for everyone from world-class motocross racers to casual trail riders. These oils deliver AMSOIL’s famous synthetic protection of 4-stroke engines, gears and clutches, buttery smooth shifting and maximum clutch conservation.

Frequently Asked Questions About AMSOIL Synthetic Dirt Bike Oils

Question: AMSOIL already offers their Advanced Synthetic Motorcycle Oil 10W-40. What is different about this new Dirt Bike 10W-40 Synthetic?

The new AMSOIL Dirt Bike 10W-40 formula places more emphasis on clutch preservation. Dirt Bike clutches can be subject to tremendous abuse. Many MX riders use persistent clutch slippage to moderate traction and maintain speed through corners. Hard riding through deep mud and sand can fry a clutch in mere minutes. One of the primary goals of these products is to dissipate heat in clutches and maintain its frictional properties to prevent slippage. Maximum power output and consistent clutch-lever feedback is the result.

Question: Does the introduction of AMSOIL Dirt Bike Oil imply that their current Advanced Synthetic Motorcycle Oils are insufficient for off-road use?

Not at all. As AMSOIL was adding 10W-50 and 10W-60 Dirt Bike Oils, it only made sense to include a Dirt Bike 10W-40 so that they could offer a full suite of oils for off-road motorcycles. The current AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil has been used in professional motocross competition for years with outstanding results. Marcel Irnie (who happens to be one of North America’s fastest pro road racers) has told us that he can get a full season out of a set of clutch plates using the current AMSOIL Advanced Synthetic Motorcycle 10W-40. If you know anything about AMSOIL, it’s no surprise that they are always looking for a ways to raise the bar. So the release of this Dirt Bike 10W-40 is in no way an indictment of the current Advanced Synthetic Motorcycle 10W-40 Oil or its prowess in off-road applications.

Question: Can I use AMSOIL Dirt Bike Oils in my street bike?

Absolutely. AMSOIL Dirt Bike Oils can be used in any street bike, road racer, supermoto, scooter or ATV that calls for 10W-40, 10W-50 or 10W-60 4-stroke oil. These oils meet or exceed the JASO MA, API SG, SJ, SH, SL specifications.

Question: What is drain interval for AMSOIL Synthetic Dirt Bike Oils?

AMSOIL Synthetic Dirt Bike Oils should be changed at the interval suggested by the motorcycle manufacturer.

Question: Are these Dirt Bike Oils suitable for use in two-stroke motorcycle transmissions?

Yes. These oils are designed for maximum transmission and wet-clutch protection, so they are optimum for this application.

Question: Can AMSOIL Dirt Bike Oil actually improve the performance of my motorcycle?

Yes and on a number of fronts. 1. The 100% synthetic formula reduces friction in your engine, so it can operate at peak output. 2. Shifting is improved, even under heavy loads. 3. As mentioned, this oil is designed to keep clutch plates from expanding due to heat and slipping, so power is put to the ground and not compromised due to clutch slippage.

Question: Is this the same motorcycle oil used by the Geico Honda Pro Motocross team?

Yes. AMSOIL has always had a policy of providing the same oils to their sponsored professional race teams that you and I can buy. MX superstar Eli Tomac and the rest of the Geico Honda team were instrumental in the development of this Synthetic Dirt Bike Oil formula.

Question: What container sizes are offered for AMSOIL Synthetic Dirt Bike Oils?

These oils are available in single US quarts (946 ml) or in cases of 12 US quarts.

Question: Where can I buy AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-40, 10W-50 or 10W-60 Dirt Bike Oil in Canada or the USA?
