This 0W-40 is part of AMSOIL’s flagship Signature Series line. The 100% synthetic 0W-40 is overbuilt to be imperious to extreme heat and high-horsepower. It has a robust chemistry that combats viscosity loss throughout the entire service interval. The cold-pour-point of -58°C brings instant cold-start protection. If you are looking for an automatic transmission fluid for that classic car or truck, finding the correct ATF product may be confusing. Modern ATF labels likely do not list long-obsolete ATF specifications. But we can help. We carry a selection of ATF products that meet most all vintage ATF specifications for General Motors, Ford and Chrysler automatic transmissions. Contact us for pricing using the form on this page.
In this article, we will list obsolete ATF specifications from Chrysler, Ford and General Motors cars from the early 1950’s to the late 1990’s. We will also show the release year for each ATF spec along with a high-quality AMSOIL ATF replacement option that meets these older specs.
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF– This is AMSOIL’s elite ATF formula. Designed to provide world-class heat, deposit and wear resistance. Offers smooth shifts and long-service life. Meets numerous vintage specs from Ford, Chrysler and GM.
AMSOIL OE Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF– Meets the same Ford, Chrysler and GM specifications as Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF at a lower price point. Delivers an upgrade in performance and protection over regular ATF products.
AMSOIL Super Shift Synthetic Racing Transmission Fluid– Designed for Ford Type “F” applications. Provides exceptional wear protection and heat-fighting capabilities. Delivers the correct frictional properties for Ford transmissions that require Type “F” ATF.
Ford took a different path than through the decades. The Ford Type “F” spec was introduced in 1967. Eventually Ford made the Type “F” specification the standard for most of their automatic transmissions backward to 1953 and up to 1979. The only exception being transmissions requiring the Ford Type “CJ” specification. Type “CJ” was used was in the mid-to-late 1970s and it does not use Type “F”. Ford Type “F” replaces Ford Type A (M2C33-A), Type “B” (M2C33-B), Ford Type “D” (M2C33-D) and Type “G” (M2C33-G).
Many ATF’s during the 1960’s and 1970’s had similar properties to GM Dexron. Ford Type “F” differed in that it did not contain friction modifiers. Therefore, this formula allowed shifting clutches to engage quickly.

General Motors pioneered many automatic transmission technology concepts. They also lead the way with transmission fluid industry standards. All major manufacturers used the GM Type “A” fluid spec through the 1950’s. In fact, several Chrysler and Ford transmission fluids over the decades closely mimicked various iterations of the GM Dexron spec.

When Trevor was searching for the best engine oil for his new Dodge Charger Hellcat SRT, he found that there were not a lot of choices on the market. As the Hellcat’s supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine puts out 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, ordinary motor oil simply would not do. The proper candidate also had to meet the Chrysler/Mopar MS-12633 specification for SRT engines.
Trevor contacted us and ultimately settled on AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-40 Synthetic Oil. This 100% synthetic 0W-40 was designed for the Dodge/Chrysler MS-12633, MS-10725 and MS-10850 specifications. This motor oil was engineered from the ground-up with the mega-horsepower rigors of Dodge SRT engines in mind. If there’s one upgrade SRT Hemi owners should make, this is it.
Trevor also purchased the first-rate AMSOIL EAO-11 oil filter for his Hellcat. AMSOIL EAO filters boast ultra-durable construction and industry-leading particle removal. We are confident that there likely isn’t a better oil/filter combination for Hellcat engines on the planet.
Trevor was kind enough to share pictures of his gorgeous Charger Hellcat. Enjoy!
Important: 5W-30 Motor Oil is no longer recommended for EcoDiesel engines.
We will soon have a synthetic 5W-30 engine oil for the new Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel 3.0L V-6 engine. The AMSOIL Low-SAPS European Formula 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is being reformulated to meet both the ACEA “C-3” and Chrysler “MS-11106” specifications. The EcoDiesel engines require an engine oil with low levels of sulfated ash, phosphorous and sulfur (known as “SAPS”). This product will be a high quality substitute for Mopar MaxPro 5W-30 Synthetic Diesel Oil (part # 68231014GA) Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W-30 and Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30.
This product will also be receiving a name change. Effective December 1st, it will be called “European Formula 5W-30 Improved Emissions System Protection Synthetic Motor Oil” (product code: AEL).
When Will This EcoDiesel Oil Be Available?
AMSOIL European Formula 5W-30 Improved ESP Synthetic Motor Oil will be available in US gallon jugs on December 1st. The quart bottles will be available as the old formulation sells out (projected to be sometime in January 2016).
We also hope to have an oil filter to go with this oil in the near future. Please check back with us in early 2016 or contact us and get on our EcoDiesel mailing list.

We have been hearing all sorts of nightmarish accounts of just how expensive the oil change service is for Dodge Ram 1500 trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokees equipped with the Italian-made 3.0L EcoDiesel engine. As the prices we were hearing almost seemed implausible, we decided to do some checking around. We contacted Dodge dealerships in major cites throughout Canada and the United States and asked for the cost of an oil and filter change for a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 with the EcoDiesel engine. The prices listed below are not averages for each city; they are price quotes from randomly selected Dodge dealerships. Prices may vary at other Dodge dealerships in these regions. These prices include labor, 11 quarts of engine oil and an oil filter.
Dodge EcoDiesel Oil Change Prices In USA and Canada
United States (prices in US funds before taxes and environmental fees)
Los Angeles $199.99
Phoenix $180.00
Denver $199.99
Chicago $200.00
New York City $169.99
Miami $185.00
Average $189.16
Canada (prices in Canadian funds before taxes and environmental fees)
Vancouver $239.85
Edmonton $235.45
Regina $259.95
Winnipeg $250.00
Toronto $230.00
Halifax $260.00

Why Is The EcoDiesel Oil Change So Expensive?
This ordinary-looking Mopar oil filter for the EcoDiesel engine has an astonishing price tag. (photo credit: rollinsmokediesel.com)
When one breaks down the retail price of the motor oil and oil filter for this engine, it becomes immediately apparent as to why an EcoDiesel oil change is so costly. The main culprit is the Chrysler/Mopar oil filter. It retails for an outlandish $61.50 in the US and $71.00 in Canada. The Mopar 6822 9402AA oil filter is a cartridge unit with a conventional cellulose media. We have inspected this part and believe us, there is absolutely nothing special about this oil filter. The plastic and paper construction of the EcoDiesel oil filter is similar to the cartridge oil filter for many Dodge V-6 engines, but at 8 to 10 times the price. The EcoDiesel filter is larger and not interchangeable.
The reason that Dodge can charge these ridiculous prices for an ordinary oil filter is that there is virtually no aftermarket competition at this time. There is some speculation that Chrysler has some sort of patent protection on this filter design that is blocking aftermarket oil filter makers from bringing competitive versions to market. We spoke to several oil filter makers and none would verify that claim. Most major oil filter makers have an EcoDiesel oil filter in the advanced design phase and some hope to be in production in early 2016. Aftermarket oil filters will likely retail for a fraction of the cost of the Mopar unit and this will bring down the cost of an EcoDiesel oil change quite dramatically.
The other input cost for a Dodge EcoDiesel oil change is the engine oil itself. Only motor oil meeting the Chrysler MS-11106 specification is suitable for this engine and there are very few alternatives on the market. Most dealerships use Mopar MaxPro 5W-30 Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil which retails for $16.15 per US quart in Canada and $9.00 in the US.
Update: 5W-40 motor oil is now suggested for EcoDiesel engines.
