In this post, we will discuss the major changes for Ski-Doo’s 2021 snowmobile lineup. We will also list every ’21 Ski-Doo model and offer our oil recommendation for each.

2021 Ski-Doo Model Highlights

New Entry-Level 600 EFI 2-Stroke Engine

A brand-new entry-level Ski-Doo engine debuts for the 2021 season. This new electric-fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, 600cc twin-cylinder 2-stroke engine can be found in the “Sport” version of many models. It is a basic, “no-frills” engine with no variable-exhaust-power-valves and delivers 85 horsepower.

This engine replaces the previous carb 600 and 550 fan-cooled engines. All Ski-Doo engines are now fuel-injected.

Turbo Option For 850 E-TEC On Mountain Sleds

Ski-Doo debuts an industry-first for 2021. They are offering the first production two-stroke turbo-charger option for their mountain sleds. A turbo-charger is available for their 850 E-TEC engine in the Freeride and Summit lines.

This turbo is not designed to provide a horsepower boost at sea-level. The main motivation of the design is to eliminate power-loss at altitude. Once the engines sensors detect power-loss at altitude, the turbo compensates. This provides a massive advantage over naturally-aspirated engines.

Suspension Upgrade For MXZ And Renegade

Some MXZ and Renegade models receive upgraded front and rear suspension this season.

The new rear suspension is called rMotion X. The new geometry of this system provides improved handling, increased travel and more adjustability.

The front system is called RAS X. This new configuration offers longer “A” arms and a longer shock over the previous RAS system. The result is more precision and control in cornering and improved bump absorption.

REV Gen4 Platform Now On All Models

For 2021, the Skandic and Tundra models now ride on the REV Gen4 platform. All Ski-Doo models are now built on this chassis.

What Is The Correct Oil For Supercharged Sea-Doo Engines?

A reader asks: I have a 2012 Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 with the 1493cc supercharged/intercooled 4-TEC engine. I know some Sea-Doo owners use Shell Rotella 10W-40 diesel oil and others swear by BRP XPS Semi-Syn Oil? What is the correct AMSOIL engine oil recommendation?

AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Marine Engine Oil

AMSOIL 10W-40 Marine is a superb choice for Sea-Doo supercharged 4-TEC engines.

Answer: As you have the supercharged Rotax 4-TEC engine, using the proper motor oil is vital. AMSOIL 10W-40 Marine Synthetic Motor Oil covers all of the bases. It is likely the best choice on the market for your supercharged Rotax.

The first consideration is that the motor oil is compatible with the slip-clutch on your supercharger. Regular motor oil for gasoline-powered cars and trucks contains friction modifiers which can cause excessive supercharger slippage. AMSOIL Marine 10W-40 does not contain friction modifiers. Therefore, it possesses the ideal frictional properties for consistent supercharger performance. The synthetic makeup of this product also fights extreme heat. The service life of supercharger slip washers and bearings is optimized.

The Sea-Doo owners using Shell Rotella diesel oil may have cheap oil. AMSOIL 10W-40 Marine Synthetic Motor Oil not only offers 100% synthetic performance, it also delivers an anti-rust and corrosion package. Some Rotax 4-Tec models from 2004 to 2007 may still have ceramic slip washers on their superchargers. There was a myth out there ten years ago suggesting that synthetic oil could damage these ceramic washers. AMSOIL performed extensive testing to debunk this theory.

Ski-Doo Snowmobile Highlights For 2015

As we highlight each snowmobile brand for 2015, let’s look at the latest offerings from Ski-Doo. Ski-Doo isn’t offering any brand new engines or chassis concepts (like Polaris) this year, but the level of refinement and overall sum of their models is quite impressive.

Yet More 4-Stroke Models

While Polaris has completely abandoned the 4-stroke engine in their snowmobiles, Ski-Doo has embraced the concept by adding a thumper option to most of their series (save for their mountain sleds). The 600 and 900 ACE engines along with the thunderous 1200 4-TEC have been well-received by the snowmobile industry. The 900cc ACE engine is now offered in the Skandic and Expedition lines.

Revised Front Suspension

Ski-Doo has revamped their “RAS” (Response Angle Suspension) front suspension with geometry changes that will improve cornering and handling in rough conditions. “RAS 2” (as it is called) will be found on the MXZ and Renegade models.

174-inch Mega Mountain Sled

Ski-Doo gets aggressive in the mountain sled market with the “T3” package in the Summit series. The main focal point in the T3 option your choice of either a 164 inch or 174 inch track shod with mammoth 3 inch lugs! Ski-Doo also reduced the weight of this model with a lighter exhaust and the new RAS 2 front suspension.

Bold New Color Schemes

To the casual observer, Ski-Doo’s biggest change for 2015 is the introduction of some deafening color schemes offered on the MXZ X-RS, Renegade XR-S, Summit X-RS and Freeride models. We think these sleds look sharp for now, but time will tell if they seem gaudy in a few years (probably).

The Snowmobile Throttle Reinvented

Since the dawn of the snowmobile, the throttle was always controlled by your right thumb. This has been a constant on virtually every snow machine made in the last half-century. On 600 ACE and 900 ACE 4-stroke models, the rider has the option of using the thumb throttle in the standard position or flipping the assembly toward the front of the handlebar. This way the rider can pull back on the throttle rather than push it forward with their thumb. This convertible throttle is called “intelligent Throttle Control” or “iTC”. The iTC throttle position change can be performed in seconds without tools and will reduce hand fatigue during long days in the saddle.
