Oildepot Tip
Most of our lawn equipment is powered by two-stroke engines. As shown in the image below, we use a Lawn Boy Silver Pro equipped with the Dura Force 2-stroke engine, a Stihl SH56-C Leaf Blower/Vac and a Stihl FS45 grass trimmer. Lawn Boy suggests a gas to oil ratio of 32:1 and Stihl suggests a 50:1 ratio. We keep one batch of fuel for all of these tools mixed with Saber Pro at anywhere from 60:1 to 75:1. We’ve experienced outstanding reliability, low exhaust smoke and great performance. There is an extremely large margin of error with this product, so frankly we don’t have to be all that fussy about the mix ratio. We have mixed as high as 100:1 and this is actually quite conservative considering the ultra-high film strength of this synthetic oil. But we are comfortable with the richer ratio and it works just fine.
We run AMSOIL Saber Professional Synthetic 2-Stroke Premix Oil at around 75:1 in our Lawn Boy Silver Pro, Stihl SH56-C Leaf Blower/Vac and Stihl FS45 grass trimmer.
Bonus Tip
We use only premium grade gasoline in our two-stroke mix. The reasons are twofold. Firstly, many 2-stroke utility engines require at least 89-octane anyway. The second and most important reason is that premium gas often does not contain ethanol. The ethanol content of regular and mid-grade gasoline can interact with moisture and create a lean condition that can potentially result in engine seizure. Don’t take our word for it. Ask your favorite small engine mechanic what he thinks of ethanol. To further mitigate the risk of ethanol performance issues, we add AMSOIL Quickshot to every batch of two-stroke mix. Quickshot not only counteracts the effects of ethanol, it also cleans carbs and stabilizes fuel between uses. We are pleased that Saber Pro now contains a gasoline stabilizer component. Stale fuel is the scourge of any small engine and the Saber Professional eliminates that risk.
How Can AMSOIL Suggest Mix Ratios Up To 100:1?
While a 100:1 premix ratio may seem outlandish to some. Considering how AMSOIL Saber Professional is formulated, it is perfectly safe. AMSOIL has been marketing a full synthetic 100:1 2-stroke premix oil since the mid-1970’s with impeccable results. So this is not a new concept. Saber Professional uses a 100% synthetic base oil with a film strength that is several times that of regular two-stroke oil. Note that there are conventional 2-stroke premix oils on the market that suggest a 100:1 ratio. AMSOIL also loads Saber Pro with detergents to prevent deposits and deliver clean combustion. Saber Pro isn’t just safe at 100:1, we would argue that it is far safer than a regular 2-stroke oil mixed at much richer ratios.
Directions For Use
AMSOIL Saber Professional Synthetic 2-Stroke Premix Oil can be mixed at ratios up to 100:1 for homeowner use. The recommended ratio for all-day, commercial-use is 75:1. As mentioned, we mix Saber Pro at anywhere from 60:1 to 75:1 for our engines with excellent results.
