Vintage Polaris TV Commercials From The 1970s
Sorry, these videos were removed from YouTube and are no longer available.
Here are four classic TV commercials for Polaris snowmobiles from the early to mid-1970s. These commercials remind us of much simpler times when snowmobiling seemed to be less expensive and much more accessible. What immediately struck us about these advertisements is that the underlying theme was not exactly “safety first”. Riders without helmets, sleds towing skiers (the skiers without helmets too), snowmobiles operated by minors (even the kids without helmets!). Every aspect of these commercials would give Polaris’s staff lawyers of today complete fits. From a modern perspective these ads look downright ridiculous, but they are definitely a treat nevertheless.
The last video features Indy 500 champ Al Unser endorsing Polaris snowmobiles. While scooping a racing legend like Unser must have seemed like a major coup, the outcome of the commercial comes off as less than effective. Al Unser looks awkward and decidedly “grandmotherly” astride that Polaris. He’s certainly not looking much like an Indy 500 champ on a snowmobile.
Anyway, we hope you enjoy these old Polaris TV ads, thanks to the magic of YouTube.
