Which Vehicles Can Use AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil?
This oil was developed for the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine, which is an option for 2020 and newer Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pick-up models. This diesel engine is also an option for 2020 and newer Chevy Tahoe and Suburban models.
About AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil
Some 3.0L Duramax owners may raise their eyebrows at the thought of using the ultra-thin 0W-20 viscosity. To put these concerns to rest, it is vital to use the most robust engine oil available. AMSOIL put the very best synthetic oil technology into this new product. In third-party testing, this new 0W-20 outperformed the OM646LA Cam Wear Test minimum standard by a factor of 6 times.

Why Did AMSOIL Create This New 5W-30 Diesel Oil?
AMSOIL decided to create a single product that is covers a number of light-duty diesel applications. This 5W-30 covers the popular Ford WSS-M2C214-B1 spec for the F-150 Power Stroke diesel. It also meets the dexosD spec for the 2.8L Duramax for in the Colorado and Canyon quarter-ton trucks. Also covered is the dexos2 spec for the diesel versions of the Chevrolet Cruze and Equinox. Lastly, this product is suitable for 2007-2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee models with the diesel engine option.
How Does This Product Compare To Signature Series Max-Duty 5W-30?
AMSOIL is quick to offer that this new 5W-30 diesel oil is not a step down from the ultra-premium “DHD” Signature Series Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel 5W-30. New 5W-30 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil offers volatility control and shear stability numbers that are right up there with Signature Series Max-Duty products.
The Signature Series Max-Duty 5W30 does cover the Ford WSS-M2C214-B1. However, it did not cover GM dexosD/dexos2 or the Jeep MS-11106 spec. Therefore, this single product conveniently covers several applications.

A reader asks: I’ve got a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 with the L5P Duramax diesel engine. I see that 15W-40 oil is suggested for this engine. Can I use 5W-40 in the winter?
Our answer: Yes, you can certainly use 5W-40 in winter (and summer) in your Duramax. While 15W-40 is suggested as the predominant viscosity for your engine, GM does recommend 5W-40 for temps below -18°C (0°F). AMSOIL’s official stance is that their 5W-40 synthetic diesel oils are safe and perfectly suited for year-round use under all conditions and loads. Naturally, 5W-40 is highly recommended for winter use, but there is absolutely no downside to using it in summer as well.
Is There Any Advantage To Using 15W-40 Over 5W-40?
No. Remember that both 5W-40 and 15W-40 have a 40-weight viscosity. Note that both are offering roughly the same viscosity protection at operating temperature.
The main advantage that 5W-40 offers is faster oil flow during cold-starts.
It is true that 15W-40 has been the predominant diesel oil viscosity for decades. The reason that 15W-40 was a mainstay was its relatively slim spread between the winter weight (15W) and the operating temperature weight (“40”). With previous generations of motor oil technology, a wider spread between winter weight and operating weight (such as 5W-40) was more prone to shearing and thinning.
Today’s motor oils (especially synthetic oils) have a much more linear viscosity across the temperature spectrum. As a result, they are much less prone to being too thick in the extreme cold or thinning out in extreme heat. Therefore, a good 5W-40 will provide flawless protection all year-round.
That is why a 5W-40 can now safely replace 15W-40 for year-round use.
What Is The Difference Between AMSOIL Signature Series Max-Duty and Heavy-Duty Diesel Oils?
Signature Series Max-Duty is AMSOIL’s most sophisticated formula. It delivers their absolute best wear control.
In the Detroit Diesel DD13 Engine Scuffing Test, Signature Series beat the minimum standard by 600%. Heavy-Duty Series beat the standard by 400%.
Signature Series Max-Duty is overbuilt for extended oil change interval capability. Heavy-Duty Series should be changed at the interval suggested by the manufacturer or by the oil life monitor.
Heavy Duty Series has a lower price tag. It was brought to market for commercial fleets, the installer market and value-minded consumers.

Bypass oil filtration has come a long way since the days of toilet paper being used as a filter element. As with any bypass oil filter system, a small portion of the engine oil is slowly run through a very fine filter element. Except in that case, ordinary single-ply toilet paper was used. We aren’t kidding. There are still systems on the market today that use toilet paper to filter engine oil.
AMSOIL’s bypass oil filter systems have never been suitable for bathroom duty. They use a very sophisticated filter media which leads the market with exceptional filtration efficiency, dirt-holding capacity and durability. Now AMSOIL has released two new systems that make for easy installation on Chevy/GMC Duramax diesel engines and Ford PowerStroke (6.0L and 6.4L) diesels. These oil filters systems remove soot and dirt down to less than 2 microns for extended oil life and reduced engine wear.
Oil Bypass Filter System For Ford 6.4L/6.0L PowerStroke Diesel Engines
The new BMK-31 for modern Ford PowerStroke diesel engines is a single remote bypass filter. This means that a single bypass filter is employed, while the factory full-flow oil filter stays in place. The BMK-31 kit comes with all of the parts, filter base and spin-on bypass filter, hoses and fittings needed for easy installation. An ingenious billet aluminum full-flow oil filter cup replaces the stock unit (note the right-hand item in photo). A fitting on the end of this location draws a small portion of engine oil out of the full-flow oil filter housing and runs it through the bypass oil filter. The ultra-clean oil is then returned to the engine through a custom billet oil filler cap. The fit, finish and construction of all of the components of this kit are truly top shelf.
New Oil Bypass Filter System For GMC/Chevy 6.6L Duramax Diesel Engines
Like the Ford system, the BMK-32 system for GM Duramax diesel engines is an easily installed single by-pass filter system. In order to draw oil from the engine, AMSOIL uses a clever billet aluminum “sandwich adapter” that fits between the engine’s spin-on full-flow oil filter and the filter base (note the right-hand item in photo). Oil is drawn through a fitting on this sandwich adapter, passed through the oil bypass filter and then returned into the engine through a billet aluminum oil filler cap (that has a return fitting on top). The filter base, bypass filter element, hoses, fitting and parts are all included in this kit.
