AMSOIL Inc. has announced that Canadian Tire will once again carry some AMSOIL Synthetic Oil products. Canadian Tire had been selling a slim cross-section of AMSOIL products from 2003 to 2014. But after a pricing dispute, AMSOIL products were discontinued from Canadian Tire stores across Canada. Effective September 2016, AMSOIL is back at Canadian Tire.
Why Did Canadian Tire Opt To Bring Back AMSOIL?
Canadian Tire’s account with AMSOIL was about to expire after being inactive for two years. With a deadline looming, the Canadian retail giant chose to revive their relationship with AMSOIL. Our assumption is that Canadian Tire customers voiced their dismay over the discontinuation of AMSOIL products during the past two years. The AMSOIL brand has only grown in popularity since their synthetic oil was last sold there. So Canadian Tire can seamlessly slide these products back on their shelves and sales will easily pick up where they left off.
A reader asks: I would like to buy AMSOIL DOT 4 Brake Fluid. I live in Canada, but it seems as though nobody carries it up here. Do you sell it? Also can Dot 4 brake fluid replace DOT 3 if I flush out all of the old fluid ?
Our answer: Unfortunately the AMSOIL DOT 4 Brake Fluid is no longer imported into Canada. AMSOIL will not ship it to Canada, so the only possible way to attain it is to pick it up from a US address. It would probably be more feasible to buy a competing DOT 4 product in Canada. Motorcycle dealers are a great place to check as they generally carry a selection of high quality DOT 4 brake fluids.
For US residents, we certainly can sell AMSOIL DOT 4 Brake Fluid as it is shipped directly from a US warehouse.
As for replacing your old fluid, DOT 4 can replace DOT 3 brake fluid, but DOT 3 cannot replace DOT 4. Without knowing the particulars of the current brake fluid or replacement product, it wouldn’t hurt to contact the manufacturer of the replacement fluid to verify the compatibility.
AMSOIL is raising prices in Canada on July 1st, 2015 by an average of 9.5% due to the steep decline of the Canadian dollar over the past year. The Wisconsin-based synthetic oil and filter maker had been grappling with the erratic currency exchange rate for several months and were ultimately forced to take this step.

How Does A Lower Loonie Affect AMSOIL Prices?
AMSOIL is based in the United States, so naturally all of their business and productions costs are priced in US dollars. As the Canadian dollar weakens versus the US dollar, it requires more Canadian dollars to cover the cost of their products. The Canadian dollar has weakened by almost 16% since July 1st, 2014. This means that AMSOIL is receiving about 84 cents on the dollar compared to this time last year. As you can imagine, this is a situation that cannot sustain itself without a price adjustment.
Other motor oil producers have been raising their prices in Canada over the last year, so this is not a situation that is unique to AMSOIL.
But Hasn’t The Price Of Crude Oil Dropped Too?
We are often asked, “Hasn’t the drop in the price of crude oil lowered AMSOIL’s raw material costs and doesn’t this offset the weaker Canadian dollar?”. That is a very valid question and one we posed to AMSOIL brass ourselves. Unfortunately the drop in crude prices does not outweigh the drop in the Canadian dollar as one might assume.
The base oils and additives required to make their synthetic oils are very sophisticated chemicals that require expensive processing. The drop in crude prices has little to no effect on these chemical ingredients and many of them have actually increased in price over the past year.
Despite the price increase, AMSOIL has a high-powered and extensive product line that still represents the best value on the market. When one considers the wear protection, performance and long life offered by AMSOIL products, it’s easy to see why your dollar can still go further with AMSOIL.
When it comes to ordering products online, there are no sweeter words than the phrase “Free Shipping”. We certainly get the warm, fuzzies from the notion.
But we see the occasional Canadian AMSOIL dealer implying that they offer free shipping on orders. Now we are not suggesting that anyone is making misleading claims, but to clear up any confusion, let it be known that there is absolutely no free shipping within Canada.
AMSOIL orders are not shipped by the AMSOIL dealer themselves. They are always shipped by AMSOIL’s certified warehouses in Toronto and Edmonton (in Canada) and 13 others located throughout the USA.
Where There Is Free Shipping On AMSOIL Orders
AMSOIL does offer free shipping within the United States on orders of $100 or greater when the customer pays full suggested retail prices for the products. Again this offer is available only to US customers (paying full suggested retail) and is not available in Canada. US wholesale customers do pay full shipping charges. While free shipping sounds great, it is not the best deal that we can offer.
How We Beat Free Shipping In Canada or USA
If a customer is ordering AMSOIL products in the $100 range, they are far better off employing our wholesale programs. The wholesale savings outweigh the shipping charges, so at the end of the day, you are saving money.
So to sum up, read the fine print as the AMSOIL free shipping is not available in Canada. If you are in the US, you are likely better offer looking at our wholesale programs than paying full suggested retail just to get the shipping covered.

Products like AMSOIL Interceptor are no longer sold by Canadian Tire.
If you have been buying AMSOIL products at Canadian Tire over the years, you may be wondering why they can no longer be found there. Last month AMSOIL and Canadian Tire came to an amicable agreement over a pricing dispute and the result was that AMSOIL will no longer be offered by CTC stores across Canada.
Canadian Tire had been carrying a slim cross-section of AMSOIL motor oils, motorcycle oils and two-stroke oils since 2003. The retail giant’s broad presence played a huge role in advancing the synthetic oil maker’s brand in Canada over that span. But this affiliation has come to an end, so where will you buy your fancy AMSOIL products now? Right here of course!
Here are top 4 reasons why Oildepot.ca can offer a much better deal on AMSOIL products than Canadian tire ever could.
1. Wholesale prices Canadian Tire had a mark-up on some products of up to 90% over dealer cost. With our wholesale programs, you can buy AMSOIL at factory-direct pricing which is the absolute lowest in Canada. Even if you are an individual wanting to buy just one case per year, this is worth consideration. Request a price list using the form on your right (bottom of page on some mobile devices) and see why.
2. Far Better Product Selection We sell the entire AMSOIL product line. Canadian Tire offered just a handful of AMSOIL products and in just a few container formats.
