Check Out Marcel Irnie in Cycle Canada Magazine
The July 2009 issue of Cycle Canada features an exclusive interview with our friend Marcel Irnie on pages 74 through 76. This article isn’t available online, so pick up an issue at your nearest newsstand. Marcel is one of Canada’s most promising motorcycle road racers.
The article describes the huge financial challenges faced by Marcel as an aspiring privateer in the Canadian Amateur Sport Bike Series. Being a located in BC when the bulk of the National schedule takes place in Eastern Canada certainly compounds his challenges.
We have talked to Marcel at length about the various financial, logistical and mechanical challenges that he’s faced so far and this article certainly does justice to his story. As this is only his third season of racing, he literally came from nowhere. Last year in just his second year of racing motorcycles, he earned a third place finish at the Calgary national against the nation’s top amateurs. Just this past weekend he nailed down second place in the 2009 Calgary national! We will be posting an account of this achievement in the coming days. Unfortunately mechanical issues on both of his race bikes may keep him from racing at Mosport, Ontario in a few weeks.
There is no question that Marcel possess enormous raw talent. Not just anyone off the street could be competitive at a national level this quickly. Being successful at road racing requires more than simply going fast on a bike. The preparation and planning that is required is considerable; especially for a relative newcomer who is working on his own. The combination of speed and mental toughness required to thrive at this level is enormous and obviously Marcel was born with these attributes.
Undoubtedly Marcel has the right stuff to succeed in this sport. With the right breaks, it wouldn’t surprise us to see him battling for podiums in the Pro class in 2 or 3 years.
Marcel has recently launched his new Irnie Racing website. Marcel is also an AMSOIL Dealer in Kelowna BC.
