AMSOIL has published a a field study using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants in a fleet of garbage trucks. In the Refuse Fleet Hauler Study, AMSOIL synthetic lubricants are tested in the trucks of Nordic Waste of Duluth, MN. Duluth was a great location for such a study as the trucks were subjected to extreme temperatures as well as steep climbs and descents. Nordic installed AMSOIL products in the engines, transmissions, differentials, and hydraulic systems.
The baseline oil used for this study was Shell Rotella T diesel engine oil. Nordic was changing the conventional Rotella product at 250 hours. As you’ll see, the AMSOIL Diesel and Marine Diesel Engine Oil was outperforming the 250 hour Shell sample after almost 1000 hours of use. Nordic employed an oil analysis program and settled on 900 hour drain intervals, saving $500-600 per truck per year. Nordic also found that oil analysis could pick out issues like fuel dilution before they became an bigger problem. Here is a video outlining the study:
