AMSOIL EAO Oil Filters in Toyota/Lexus Applications
The AMSOIL “EAO-57″ oil filter is no longer recommended for use in Toyota and Lexus applications. A WIX oil filter will be recommended in its place. AMSOIL recommends changing the oil filter at the OEM recommended service interval. For more information, see the service bulletin TSB: EAO Oil Filters – Toyota Applications. Other helpful reading is the service bulletin TSB: Using AMSOIL in Engines with Possible Sludge Issues.
We spoke to AMSOIL Tech Services about this issue and gathered two reasons for this action:
1. These engines “run dirty” and are quite prone to sludge and depositing. This can actually lead to premature plugging of the ultra-fine EAO media. Of course, the efficient EAO media is strong virtue in every other application.
2. The EAO oil filters are marketed as a long-life, extended drain filter, but this simply isn’t possible under these circumstances. Not recommending this filter will hopefully prevent consumers that aren’t aware of the sludge and deposit situation from using these filters over extended service intervals.
Now with all of this being said, we are still fans of Toyota vehicles and wouldn’t hesitate to buy one. One simply has to change the oil and filter as per OEM recommendations.
We are also love the EAO oil filters. They are more than capable of providing great protection over long service intervals. No oil filter should run long in these engines.
The EAO-57 filter can be used in all other applications calling for this part number. To see which filter is needed for your vehicle, consult our Product Application Tool.
